For the jury to award a product SkogsElmia Innovation Award Gold requires that it is both new in the market and the technology is in principle new. It should be an innovation that contributes to the development of Swedish forestry, a product worth keeping an eye on.
A product that is awarded the SkogsElmia Innovation Award Silver has the jury judged as interesting and also a novelty. Obtaining silver means that the product stands out among the nominated contributions and has placed among the best when the different criteria are weighed together.
The award was presented at SkogsElmia on June 6.
Reason:
At present, forest machines have such high and sustained production capacity that drivers' performance and endurance become crucial to productivity. Forest Falcon can mean a significant improvement in the working environment, contribute to an improved interaction between man and machine and inspire future partial automation. The product can easily be installed or retrofitted in any machine. In principle, HUD is a new technology for the industry that can be of great importance and is rewarded with gold in the SkogsElmia Innovation Award 2019.
Reason:
A method of tree recognition with image taking of the cut tree and stump cut surface using a mobile camera. Through algorithms, second-fast matching can be done. The technology enables origin marking and traceability of each tree individual in manual felling, from stump to end customer. Awarded gold in the SkogsElmia Innovation Award 2019.
Reason:
arGrow granules are a patented natural plant nutrient that is effectively absorbed by the plant and can greatly increase the growth of roots and mycorrhizae. To apply arGrow, Doseraren was developed, an additive to Pottiputki Planting Tubes. The dispenser delivers the right amount of fertilizer to the plants and is driven by the movement of the rod as the jaws of the planting tool are opened. Faster and safer planting is of great importance for forestry. The donor is rewarded with gold in the SkogsElmia Innovation Award 2019.
Reason:
An app for mobile phone for measuring forest. Measurements performed are objective and traceable. In addition to KATAM Forest, there is KATAM Treetop detection that allows all trees to be detected with position and height based on a drone photo. By correlating this data with soil measurements with KATAM Forest, all trees in a stock or property can be estimated by tree type, diameter, tree height and volume. Technology that enables precision forestry is rewarded with gold in the SkogsElmia Innovation Award 2019.
Reason:
Cutting is an important step during harvesting and affects both productivity, wear and timber quality. Sharp and even-cut chains are very important. Sensomatic is the only automatic chain grinder on the market that grinds cutting teeth, bottom and rider with sensor controlled feeders. This significant improvement is rewarded with silver in the SkogsElmia Innovation Award 2019.
Reason:
The MS 500i is the world's first and only electronic saw with electronic fuel injection. It enables improvement of weight / power ratio for chainsaws and easier start. This significant improvement is rewarded with silver in the SkogsElmia Innovation Award 2019.
Reason:
The first reliable altimeter as a smartphone app. Arboreal Tree Height uses AR technology to measure distances and angles for calculating tree height. The phone has most of them with you and then you have the opportunity to measure tree heights which are rewarded with silver in the SkogsElmia Innovation Award 2019.
Reason:
A hybrid band for forest machines. A cutting band that can be supplemented with bearing plates, in place in the terrain. The plates are hooked on one side and then fastened with bolts on the other. The bearing plates also have a new capped profile that will give increased bearing capacity. It is important to clean both the soil and the working environment. Interesting development of machine ties that are awarded with silver in the SkogsElmia Innovation Award 2019.
The jury consists of industry experts who, in an initial assessment, examine the news value. All complete submissions submitted are judged by the jury on the basis of how fundamentally new and innovative the technology is. The jury decides whether the product should be nominated for medal. The jury then makes a weighted and comparative assessment of all nominated products on the basis of the criteria news value, environmental impact, work environment, end product quality and economy / productivity.
All complete notifications that come in are assessed by the jury. The products that meet the competition rules will be nominated.
The winners are then nominated for the award. The nominated products are classified according to the "news grade" according to a developed assessment template. The assessment template provides points based on various criteria, news value, environmental impact, work environment, end product quality and economy / productivity. The number of average points then determines whether the product receives any award. There are no requirements for the jury to select a certain number of gold or silver, but only to see if the product meets the criteria. In practice, this can mean that no one wins any prize or that all nominees receive an award.
Mattias Pontén, project manager, SkogsElmia and the chairman of the jury
Per Frankelius, Associate Professor, Linköping University
Magnus Thor, Head of Research, Forest Research
Göran Andersson, CEO and forest contractor, ELA Skogsservice AB.
The jury's judgment cannot be appealed.
In order for the jury to judge a product, the registration form and the necessary appendices must be complete and as comprehensive as possible when reporting. Inadequate documentation where questions in the form have not been answered will not be assessed. A company can submit a maximum of three grants for assessment.
The product should be a technical innovation or new technology in the forest industry.
The product must not have been marketed in Sweden before 1 January 2017.
Upon notification, the product must be on the Swedish market and / or launched at SkogsElmia 6-8 June 2019.
The product should, depending on its field of application, mean an improvement in the areas of economy / productivity, work environment, end product quality or environment.
Products in the following areas are not eligible for assessment:
Inputs such as chemical and / or organic preparations such as plant protection products and fertilizers etc.
Business models or other types of theoretical models
Technology that is outside the fair's areas of forestry and timber logistics.
Specified product improvements that are not self-evident shall be substantiated by independent test results or the like. Similarly, information on test soil should be attached where relevant. Pictures, films, product brochures etc. describing the product should be attached if available.
At least one image must be high-resolution (300 dpi) and Elmia should have the right to freely use the image in connection with SkogsElmia and SkogsElmia Innovation Award.
The winners are then nominated by the jury. The nominated products are classified into three groups depending on the "news grade" following a developed assessment template. The assessment template gives points according to different criteria. The number of average points then determines whether the product receives gold, silver or is just mentioned.
The products that are nominated will be published about one month before SkogsElmia 2019. Prizes will be given at SkogsElmia 6-8 June 2019.
Once a product has been awarded a medal, the company can use the emblem SkogsElmia Innovation Award Gold or Silver in its marketing.
The year for the medal should always be clear in the marketing. Only the logo of the SkogsElmia Innovation Award Gold or Silver may be used in conjunction with the winning product and not in general marketing of the company.
