If the information needed can be digitized, management can be streamlined, transparency increased and traceability improved. With ChainTraced's digital product passport solution, the carbon footprint of products can be documented at the individual level along the value chain and presented in real time. This enables fact-based decisions for companies and end consumers in the necessary climate transition.
For products that are manufactured, information is needed on, among other things, input materials, reuse, recycling, and also its carbon footprint along the manufacturing process. ChainTraced has a solution that helps companies to digitize their product data in so-called digital product passports. Digital product passports provide traceability down to the individual product level and updated information in real time. For companies in a value chain, this information provides opportunities for more efficient management, increased transparency, but also ways to create new value together.
The case shown at the Tech Arena describes how ChainTraced's product passport solution is used at Nitator and SSAB
SSAB provides a wealth of information about the sheet metal supplied to Nitator. Nitator processes the incoming material and assembles it with other components. The digital product passport for each product is updated. Along the entire chain, the CO2 footprint is applied to the product in terms of raw materials used, own production and transport effects.
This data collection forms an information tree that is used as a basis for analysing where in the chain the main CO2 emissions occur and their causes. The tree also shows where in the chain different types of materials are added, thus enabling the detection and substitution of harmful materials.
The information is also used to check compliance with current and future requirements. Material composition is a necessity for efficient reuse, recycling and safe disposal.
