– ’Many people can machine a detail. Complex details with fine tolerances are a given, but our customers also expect full traceability. They want us to be at the forefront - and so we are,’ says Pawel Reszel, Quality Manager at Varbergs Precision.
It is about cutting, turning and milling of aluminium in five-axis multi-operation machines. Varbergs Precision, a contract manufacturer in precision engineering, supplies demanding customers in fields such as medical technology and has also been a supplier to the defence industry for 30 years. A role that is becoming increasingly clear right now.
- ‘We can see that things are picking up, enquiries have increased sharply. That's the most noticeable change,’ says Maria Penca, purchasing manager.
The change is also evident across all customer groups in terms of increased demands for sustainability and traceability. For Maria, as a purchasing manager, this is reflected in extensive documentation on everything from material certificates to sources of supply. Pawel talks about tests and checks to ensure quality, as well as total control over how raw materials are transported, handled and processed. He describes the sustainability work as a must. Right now, a sustainability assessment according to Ecovadis is underway and the documentation plays a key role in traceability and sustainability. Everything is digital today, of course, but if you were to deliver in paper format, the documentation would often weigh more than the detail itself.
- We cannot deliver today without documentation. Our customers look at the documentation before looking at the detail itself,’ says Pawel Reszel.
Traceability and documentation go way back in time.
- Sometimes the customer asks for data on materials and tolerances for a part produced fifteen years ago and even then we can provide answers. This is important when we work with industries that have such high demands,’ says Maria Penca.
Varbergs Precision is exhibiting at Elmia Subcontractor for the fifth year together with industry colleagues Svarvmekano. And it is an important meeting place, also for industry colleagues to meet, says Pawel:
- ‘There are more and more people working in the defence sector and many come to the stand to discuss possible projects with us. Elmia Subcontractor is a place to meet colleagues, customers and suppliers.
