The industry of the future – TUC Higher Vocational Education shows the way forward

The industry of the future – TUC Higher Vocational Education shows the way forward
The Swedish manufacturing industry faces a major challenge – the skills shortage. In order to meet this challenge, innovative educational solutions and strong collaborations between business and education providers are required. We met Nina Andersson, business developer, and Anna Ringborg, business developer at TUC, about their work and future visions.

During this year's Elmia Subcontractor, TUC Higher Vocational Education, one of Sweden's largest private universities of applied sciences, will exhibit at the Competence Market – a meeting place where companies and education providers can gather to discuss the competencies of the future. The lack of qualified labour is a reality for many companies in the manufacturing sector. As technology advances, the need for specialized skills increases.

– It's not just about meeting today's needs, we also need to equip ourselves for the professional roles of the future, Nina Andersson explains. Many technical and industrial occupations are today perceived as less attractive, despite the great career potential.

– We have an important role in highlighting the exciting career paths that the industry offers. It is a sector with enormous potential, and we want to help both companies and students discover this, adds Anna Ringborg.

Tailormade training courses for the industry

TUC works actively to adapt its educations in close cooperation with business. Each training has a management team consisting of representatives from the industry, which ensures that the training content is relevant and meets the needs of the industry.

– We have a constant dialogue with the companies to understand both their current and future needs. These collaborations enable us to keep our educations relevant and practically adapted to the development of the labour market. Thanks to the strong cooperation with the business world, many of our students also get the opportunity to complete an LIA internship (learning on the job), which often leads to employment immediately after graduation, Anna continues.

Strengthens relationships at Elmia Subcontractor

Elmia Subcontractor is one of the manufacturing industry's most important meeting places and offers TUC a fantastic opportunity to strengthen cooperation with the industry. By maintaining a close dialogue with the companies and being flexible in their training solutions, they ensure that tomorrow's workforce is ready to deal with technological and digital challenges.

– It is an excellent opportunity to meet the industry and show how we can help companies find and develop the skills they need. At the same time, it gives us valuable insights into their future challenges, which allows us to adapt our courses to meet them. We want companies to see us as their obvious partner when it comes to solving their skills needs. Our strength lies in our ability to quickly adapt to their needs, both now and in the future, concludes Nina.
