Half a century of visions of the future, world news and innovations. Since its inception in 1975, Elmia Wood has been the leading meeting place for the forestry industry, where innovations and technological advances have transformed and developed modern forestry. The fair has brought together the global forestry industry in the forests of Småland and become a unique forum for the forest industry worldwide.

Elmia Wood, one of the world's largest forestry fairs, began in 1975 as a test with a loop consisting of 25 exhibitors and machine demonstrations in the forest. At the same time, part of the fair was held at Elmia. But as early as 1973, a trial was conducted to bus visitors from Elmia to show machines in the forest. The concept, where machines are demonstrated in their natural environment, quickly became a success and attracted more visitors and exhibitors each time.
In 1977, visitors and exhibitors doubled, and the name Elmia Wood was established that same year. The fair became a model for similar events around the world. From 1983, the fair was held entirely in the forest, which required extensive logistics for roads, electricity, telephony and car parks.
Over the years, both the size and the importance of the fair grew. In 1987, almost 49 000 people visited the fair despite rain and chaos in muddy car parks. Visitor numbers increased tenfold from the start and participants became increasingly international. Exhibitors from all over the world showed their latest innovations and many times Elmia Wood was the place where they showed their new products for the very first time.
With its authentic setting, the scent and sound of the forest, the fair has always been more than just a fair. It has become a centre for innovation and knowledge exchange in forestry.
